Where & When
Central Sydney Presbyterian Church meets on Sundays at 10am at Darlington Public School (Golden Grove Street, Darlington).
A Kids' Church program is provided at church for children aged 3-12, and creche facilities are also available.
History and Purpose
In 1999, the Presbyterian Church in New South Wales decided to plant a new church in an old area of Sydney: Redfern and Newtown. We are that church. This year, 2007, we will be eight years old.
Our church's motto, Learning to Live by Heart, reflects the major change Jesus can bring to anybody’s life: a change in heart. We as a church want to be people who are different because God’s spirit makes a difference - a difference that is more than just skin deep, that goes to our very heart. In so many ways we’re not there yet, but we are on the way.
We believe the Bible has always called God’s people to be different in the world and to show a world that doesn’t know God what God is like. We’ve summarized that into four "Ws": WORD, WORSHIP, WITNESS and WORK.
WORD
First and foremost, we are listeners, because God speaks in his word, the Bible. We have a strong emphasis on Bible teaching and study.
WORSHIP
Our response to God speaking is worship, both as a group on Sundays and as individuals in how we live all our lives.
WITNESS
Witness has always been what has defined the people of God: How we live and who we talk about demonstrates to the world who our Lord is and who is the true Lord of everyone.
WORK
We believe that ministry is a fundamental part of who we are, and work is part of that ministry, whether that’s full time paid ministry in church, or the labour of an ordinary job, or whether it’s being a mum or a dad. God calls us to engage the world and that calling can take many different forms.
So church on Sunday aimed at challenging and equipping all of the congregation to re-enter their ministries come Monday morning. We are of no particular age group or ethnic background - what we have in common is the Lord Jesus, our King and Saviour. We are ordinary people following an extraordinary God.
